Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.

HM Inspectorate of Probation has announced the publication of a new Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.

This document builds on positive progress made over the last year to deliver the organisation’s EDI mission statement:

  • Driving forward positive change in equity, diversity and inclusion – for everyone, all the time.
  • Creating an equitable, diverse and fully inclusive organisation, and a safe culture, where everyone has a voice, and all lived experiences are valued.
  • Integrating equity, diversity and inclusion into all aspects of our work, evolving with the times, and influencing others to do the same.

Martin Jones, Chief Inspector of Probation, said: “I am proud to lead an organisation that is committed to ensuring we achieve justice for all through cultural humility, learning from others and challenging ourselves to be the best not only in the workplace but within society. Our updated strategy sets out the progress we have made against our previous strategy and plan and our ambitions for the future. In order to achieve our goals, we will continue to prioritise actions that will lead to meaningful change.”

The new strategy sets out how the Inspectorate will continue to deliver the equity, diversity and inclusion objectives embedded in its Corporate Plan through three workstreams: Diverse and inclusive workforce and culture, Inspecting equity, diversity and inclusion, and Learning and development – all focused on maximising the impact of this important work.

It also shares progress and achievements from the last year, including a new Welsh Language Scheme, the expansion of the Inspectorate’s successful minority ethnic shadowing scheme, and extensive work to deliver child, parent, and carer participation and engagement.
